Florida Heat and RV Absorption Refrigerator Performance

Absorption refrigerators use a heat-driven chemical cycle: a burner or electric element heats a boiler containing an ammonia-water solution, the ammonia vaporizes and rises through a series of tubes, condenses at the condenser coils behind the refrigerator, and absorbs heat from the refrigerator compartment as it evaporates in the evaporator coils. The entire cycle depends on gravity and passive convection - there are no moving parts. This simplicity is the system's strength, but it creates a fundamental limitation: the condenser coils on the back of the refrigerator must be cooler than the refrigerant's condensing temperature to allow the ammonia to condense. When Florida ambient temperatures are 95-100 F and the refrigerator compartment behind the coach wall reaches 115-120 F (common on a south-facing coach wall in summer), the condenser cannot reject heat adequately and the freezer temperature climbs.
